“What Happens in Vegas Doesn’t Always Stay in Vegas”
Cody Hayes is having one epic morning-after. The hangover following a Vegas bachelor party is nothing new to him, and neither is the naked man in his bed.
His apparent marriage is a different story.
Carefully plotting every detail of his life carried Julian Canales to a senate seat as an openly gay man. A drunken night of Truth or Dare isn’t like him… and neither is marrying a man he just met. He’d get an annulment, but the media has gotten wind of his hasty nuptials. If Julian’s political career is going to survive, he has to stay married to a man who’s his opposite in every way.
Now he must convince Cody that all they need to do is survive a conservative political rival, a heartbroken ex, their painful pasts… and an attraction neither man can fight.
Top 3 Favorite Soap Opera Couples
Hi, everyone! It’s time for the latest stop on my blog tour, promoting my recent release Suddenly Yours, the second book in my One Fine Day series.
The books in this series all center on the theme of marriage. In each book, readers will be introduced to a new set of characters, who will face a different set of complications. The glue that ties the books together is a wedding or marriage. This means, readers can pick up any book in the series and immerse themselves in the world without feeling as if they have to go back to the first book.
So now that I’ve told you a little bit about the series itself, let’s talk about soap operas. Now why in the world would I want to do that? Well, Cody Hayes, one of the main characters in Suddenly Yours loves soap operas.
Okay, that might be a bit of an understatement. He is addicted to soap operas. Whenever Cody isn’t writing or trying to earn a paycheck, he spends his time in front of his DVR watching the latest episodes or reliving classic episodes on SoapNet. In fact, when faced with difficult choices in life, he often asks himself what his favorite characters might do. So as you can see, he is a bit obsessed.
So to introduce you to Cody, I figured it would be fun if I had Cody discuss his Top 3 Favorite Soap Opera Couples. I hope you’re ready because I’m handing the keyboard over to him right now.
Hey, everybody! It’s the one and the only Cody Hayes live from Jacob’s computer. I can’t tell you how excited I am to be here today. Not only do I get to talk to you fabulous people, but Jacob told me I get to talk soap operas. O.M.G! Soap Operas are like the best thing ever. I’ve been addicted to them since my grandmother first introduced them to me. We would sit on her couch and watch her shows all afternoon, gasping at all the crazy things the villains would do and ahhing whenever our favorite couples FINALLY got together. So in honor of my lovely grandmother, I want to share with you my favorite soap couples of all time. Are you ready? I know I am!
#3—Luke and Reid from As the World Turns
Naturally, Luke and Reid make my list of all time faves because they were like the first gay couple to get a storyline on a soap, and it wasn’t a G-rated version either that was watered down to make a relationship between two guys more palatable. Luke and Reid kissed, and they slept together. Hell, they did everything the other straight couples on soaps did, and I LOVED IT! I remember screaming like a little girl when Luke Snyder, who came from one of the most popular families on the show, came out of the closet, and when he got his first boyfriend, I practically wet myself. And while Noah was great, when Reid hit the screen, he and Luke sizzled together. They weathered all sorts of storms together and would have been higher on my list IF they would have gotten their happily ever after, but unfortunately, Reid’s death cut their relationship short. Even so, Luke and Reid will always remain one of the couples I love the most.
#2—Holden and Lily from As the World Turns
Okay. I know this is yet another couple from ATWT, but this show was one of my grandmother’s favorite shows to watch. In fact, it was the first one she introduced me to, and Holden and Lily (who are Luke’s parents by the way) were the first couple I ever fell in love with, and they had one of the sexiest meets ever. Holden, who worked as a stable boy for Lily’s mother, jumped down from the hayloft sweaty and shirtless. Like Lily, I was speechless, and I was rooting for them from that moment on. Sure, it took them a few years (and marriages to other people to get together), but when they did, it was pure magic.
#1—John and Marlena from Days of Our Lives
Words cannot express how much I ADORE John and Marlena. The characters are wonderful together, and they have fought through so much to be together. How much? Well, they’ve weathered multiple back from the dead storylines, Marlena being possessed by the devil, Marlena being framed as a serial killer, John’s time as a priest/assassin, and vengeful exes who have tried to split them apart, but nothing, and I mean NOTHING, can ever come between them for long. Through it all, John and Marlena have each other’s backs, and to me, that’s the very definition of a true soap opera couple.
So there you have it, my top 3 favorite soap opera couples of all time. If you’re a fan of soaps like I am, I hope at least one of your faves made my list. If not, who are your favorite couples and why? I’d love to talk about it, and believe me when I say, I’ve seen just about every soap opera there is!
Cody Hayes had had some epic hangovers in his life. In college he’d woken up naked in front of his fraternity house after his brothers had decided to draw obscene pictures in Magic Marker all over his skin. It had taken him a week to finally scrub the many penises off his flesh. Then there was his twenty-first birthday, when his best friend, Sam Judd, convinced him he’d look good without eyebrows, or the time he’d sung “I Will Always Love You” to his college crush, the star quarterback for the Texas Longhorns. That had been a fun night of trying not to get his ass kicked.
There had been other moments like that throughout the thirty years of his life, but this one… well, this one took the cake.
He’d never woken up married before.
“We’re what?” his new husband asked before glancing at Cody’s hand. Cody quit fiddling with the wedding band and pointed to his finger.
Julian, his gasping groom, fixed his gaze on his own left hand. “Is this a joke?”
If only this was a prank cooked up by his scheming best friends, but neither of them was that lucky. Although Cody couldn’t quite remember everything at the moment thanks to the alcohol-induced fog that clouded his memories, he distinctly recalled walking into the twenty-four-hour chapel hand in hand with Julian and laughing all the way down the aisle. They certainly weren’t laughing now. “Nope. We’re hitched.”
“This—this can’t be happening,” Julian groaned, a look of panic seizing his dark, handsome features as he glanced at the white sheets wrapped around their bodies. “Am I—? Are we—? Did we—?”
Cody didn’t need Julian to finish his questions to know what he was asking. Clearly they’d been married long enough already for Cody to finish his thoughts. “Yes, yes, and—” He reached under the blankets. The head of his cock was raw, and when he cupped his balls, they ached as if he’d been slamming them hard against something all night. “Yes.”
Julian covered his mouth with his hand, and a second later he was a naked blur heading for the bathroom. Shortly after the door slammed, the magical sounds of violent retching echoed off the tiled walls.
Not exactly a stellar way to start off their lives together.
